Our requirement
An amazing opportunity for a Linux systems administrator to join a well established and rapidly growing firm to gain experience in automation, data-centric services and create exactly the right technical environment from the ground up.
In 2015 we started offering structured support packages to our clients and growth of our services area means we need to strengthen our team with a full-time Systems Engineer / Administrator to support the following areas:
- Linux Virtual Server (Debian OS) management
- Apache, Varnish, Mysql, Postfix / Dovecot
- Monitoring Tools (nagios, ELK)
- Internal applications for ticketing, configuration management and provisioning
- Security (IDS, firewalls, logfile analysis)
- Client Support
- DevOps (tools and environments enhancements, services roadmap)
Your duties
This is a new position so there will be a requirement to help shape daily operations and increased automation will help perform many of these tasks - which you will help to define and deliver.
DevOps
- Creation of solutions for various project and operational needs
- Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure systems, services, settings, directories, storage in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements
- Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures
- Contribute to and maintain system standards
- Work with Developers to enhance website security, functions, delivery and performance
- Research and recommend innovative and automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale
System Management & Support
Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups
Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions
Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate storage. Perform weekly recovery tests of sample backups to test integrity
Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary
Maintenance
- Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary
- Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures.
- Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning
- Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required
You need
- Good verbal and written English
- Ability to work remotely and often unsupervised
- To actively participate in team discussions, projects and deliverables
- A desire to create your own solutions to our business requirements
- 2-3 years systems administration experience in LAMP stack
- Good scripting skills in bash + others
Working environment
You will work remotely, covering core business hours
Team collaboration is done through a number of tools such as Google Apps, Skype, Trello, Basecamp, OSTicket
The technical team are based in Serbia, with UK Headquarters (Sales, Finance, Account Management)
Out of hours work will occasionally be required, time off in lieu will be given
No regular travel required.
You will be part of our technical team, working alongside designers and developers, to deliver and support new and existing clients
