Serbia: Belgrade Voted the Best Investment Location
11:40 - 22 February 2006 - Serbia's capital received an award of the "City of the Future of South-East Central Europe," in the competition of the world's most famous economic magazine, London's Financial Times, as the best investment location in the region, and is a serious candidate for obtaining the same award in the category of southern Europe.
The Serbian Investment and Export Promotion Agency (SIEPA) says that in the Financial Time's competition for European Cities and Regions of the Future 2006/07, Belgrade is one of the winners after the first round of the competition, which consists of three rounds.
Belgrade won the award of the "City of the Future of South-East Central Europe," as this famous economic magazine named the region in which Serbia is located.
All winners from the region compete for the award "City of the Future" in one of the five larger regions - central, western, eastern and southern Europe.
Among the winners of these five regions, the "European City of the Future" will be selected.
According to unofficial data, Belgrade has a big chance of winning the "City of the Future of Southern Europe" award.
SIEPA representatives are in permanent contact with Financial Times representatives, from whom they have obtained information that Belgrade is a serious candidate for the new award.
In cooperation with SEDP, the USAID's project for Serbian enterprise development, SIEPA prepared Belgrade's application and is following the course of the competition.
The "Cities and Regions of the Future" competition is organised by the Financial Times' specialised edition for foreign direct investment, FDI Magazine, and this annual award is granted to all continents.
It is a recommendation and recognition of locations suitable for future investments, given by the most renowned economic magazine in the world.
